Grant is a counsellor in Bendigo. He is passionate about supporting people to recover from their experience with poor mental health.
Grant’s first career was in education as a teacher and school leader. These roles provided him with the opportunity to live and work in NSW, the UK, and Victoria. Grant witnessed the impact poor mental health had on both students and teachers. It was this experience that inspired him to retrain to become a counsellor and support people’s mental health recovery. As a result, Grant completed a Master of Counselling at Edith Cowan University, Perth.
Grant has spent time working as a counsellor in community settings, before embarking on his own private practice. He has supported people to recover from: trauma, grief and loss, addiction, abuse, depression and anxiety, interpersonal challenges, low self-esteem and existential challenges. As always, Grant is committed to providing a non-judgemental and safe counselling environment for all.
As a teacher, Grant refused to believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to learning. Instead, he differentiated learning for his students in innovative ways that allowed them to achieve their potential. He takes the same philosophical approach as a counsellor, and as a result, subscribes to an integrative therapeutic approach where a person’s individual needs are catered for.
More recently, Grant has become passionate about the use of eye movements to facilitate and support healing. He has seen first-hand the transformative nature of such approaches and has undertaken specialist training to become accredited in Eye Movement Integration Therapy (EMIT). This approach helps support people who have experienced significant challenges in their life. Grant continues to train with the EMIT Training College of Australia and the Impact Academy based in Canada. Grant is also furthering his skills and knowledge by undertaking additional Eye Movement Desenitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) training with practitioners based in the US.
Eye movement therapies and Impact Therapy are all cost effective, as people who use such approaches generally require fewer therapeutic sessions, and healing tends to be long term.
Grant lives in Bendigo. He enjoys being outdoors and believes in its restorative powers. He also devotes time to supporting the performing arts in the local community.
